R, S – alpha Lipoic acid 200mg
Dose
Adults - Take 1 capsule, 1-3 times daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Children under 12 years - Only as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Indications
Alpha Lipoic 200 assists in the maintenance of general well-being, offering antioxidant
properties (being a free radical scavenger). Antioxidants are nutrients which reduce the
risk of cellular damage attributed to free radicals. Antioxidants donate electrons and
convert free radicals to stable non toxic metabolites.
Free radicals are highly reactive substances which may occur in the body and can be
generated by lifestyle factors such as excess dietary fats, cigarette smoke, alcohol
consumption, pollutants and stress.
Alpha Lipoic acid (also known as Lipoic acid) recycles endogenous antioxidants
including vitamins C and E, Coenzyme Q10 and glutathione, thus strengthening the body’s
antioxidant network. It may be beneficial in conditions that are associated with
oxidative stress and therefore may be helpful in maintaining healthy peripheral nerve
function. Lipoic acid also facilitates the removal of metals from the body by chelation,
thus minimising the risk of cellular damage.
Alpha Lipoic 200 is soluble in water as well as fat and is therefore able to work in fat
and water soluble tissues of the body, thus scavenging fat and water soluble free radicals.
Lipoic acid plays a role in the conversion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats into energy,
hence improving ATP (energy) synthesis. This is achieved through its involvement in the
mitochondria (energy warehouse of the cell). Lipoic acid supports skeletal muscle during
exercise as a result of the mitochondrial involvement and through the reduction of
oxidative stress.
Alpha Lipoic acid is particularly known for its role in glucose metabolism, where it is
involved in the transport of blood glucose into cells. This may therefore help to maintain
healthy blood sugar levels, when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.

artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives.
